When I first saw PEAK, I thought that it was just another indie game like Schedule I that my friends and I would play once and be done with it. However, when we finally got our hands on it, it was actually tons of fun and hilarious. So, what makes PEAK so addictive?
In PEAK, you are on your way to board a flight to have that vacation you and your friends have been planning for a long time. Everything’s all well and dandy until you ride, crashing down to the Shore. This is where the game begins, and you will have a few items in your luggage nearby to start your journey to the top.

I imagined that the game would be clunky, judging by how fast the development for it was. This was created during a month-long game jam by Aggro Crab and Landfall. However, during our first playthrough, all I can say is that it was really pleasant and satisfying. It can be frustrating when we aren’t able to reach a certain ledge, but that’s part of PEAK‘s charm.
The first generated map we encountered was okay. We started on Tenderfoot, just to get a feel of the climbing mechanics. It was easier managing the hunger, stamina, and weight, but still a challenge nonetheless. When we felt like it was time to put on the big boys and girls pants, we started on PEAK‘s original difficulty.
Getting to the top of each mountain in every biome is what makes the game so addictive. The replayability is also great since they procedurally generate the map every 24 hours. There are times when getting over SHORE feels hard, and we struggled a lot as there were weird-shaped ledges. You’ll get the hang of each new map after a few runs, especially with the help of the items (thank God for the rope and chain guns).

The characters are all cute, and I love the customization. The badges are also great since I love collecting, and they unlock new cosmetics for you to wear. Some are easy to get, like the hat after reaching the top of SHORE (the first biome), then there are ones like getting yeeted by the Scoutmaster (if you dare find out more about him).
There are just some things that you need to experience for yourself, and the game’s price is worth it.
