Why I Love Urban Myth Dissolution Center

Urban Myth Dissolution Center

Are you looking for reasons to start playing Urban Myth Dissolution Center? You’ve come to the right place!

Urban Myth Dissolution Center is a visual novel adventure game in which you play as Azami, who also seeks help from the center’s Director, Amamiya. It was released on October 14, 2024, for platforms like the PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5 (PS5).

I just came across the game while browsing Steam for some horror games. The game looked really interesting (and I’m probably just a sucker for some good art), so I decided to try it out. I immediately fell in love with many aspects of the game, and I believe you would also appreciate them!

Art style

Urban Myth Dissolution Center

When I first started the game, I immediately fell in love with its pixelated art style. The ‘close-up’ art of the characters and the design feels right when we explore each level. There’s not a lot of color in the game, but the red makes each key person and item in the surroundings pop.

Concept

I love the game’s concept of using popular myths to incorporate into the story. Instead of it being a straightforward detective-like game where it’s all about manmade crimes, this lets you believe in the possibility that the happenings are because of myths.

Gameplay

The gameplay of Urban Myth Dissolution Center reminds me a lot of Ace Attorney games. While it’s not entirely the same, you need to investigate by examining different items in each location and speaking to the key witnesses, victims, and suspects. There’s also a portion while riding with Jasmine to the location where you have to research about the case by going through the game’s social media. You’ll have to figure out keywords and phrases that you can search.

There’s also a part where you will figure out what myth might be connected to the case. By the end, you will piece together everything to finally find out the truth about what’s happening. The director will guide you throughout the process.

Light yet dark at the same time

I was actually scared at first because some of the screenshots of the game seemed terrifying, since I found the game through the Horror section on Steam. However, when I played through it, it’s actually quite lighthearted at times. The game throws jokes and funny moments here and there, which took me by surprise.

Characters

I absolutely adore Azami and Jasmine, since they are the two main characters we encounter throughout the game (besides the Director). Both of them have their own charm, with Azami being scared but facing things head-on and Jasmine, who can be quite sketchy but guides and protects Azami when needed.

Overall, I really love the mystery surrounding the game. The art is immaculate, and Ace Attorney fans will appreciate it if they give it a chance.
